As you may know we are planning to start a new L2j Server poject in the end of September.
Some of the work is starting already now. Issle is coding new Engines and we are
searching for a competent dev team (which is kinda hard to find to be honest).

We are also about to set up a small pre porject called "L2Arena".
L2Arena is a PvP based server only, which gonna help us
to find a good custom class balance for the final server poject later on.

If we can handle the balance issue already before, we wont have to mess around
with it later on and don't need to change the balance over and over again
like it happened on L2Relapse. I want a final balance that needs almost no changes.
For that I need players testing it on a live server all the time.

So what exactly is L2Arena?

First of all you are choosing your char like always and you ll already spawn
with maxed out gear in a specific area. There are no mobs or quests.
It's just one area you can't leave. One area where you can only PvP all the time.
It's like an ego shooter. All you have to do is loggin in and pew pew with every class you want.
While the players fighting each other, I ll stay in the background and monitor
all the happenings and try to react with certain changes on the classes.


Following problems Iam facing atm:

1. How can we motivate the players to PvP all the time when there is nothing to fight for?
Issle thought about some unlocks you can get through PvP only.
For example +3 enchants, noblee ... something like this.
Ofc it shouldn't influence the balance in a serious way.

2. Should the server stay up 24/7? If everybody is just PvPing for an hour it will be spread
to much over the day and I can't monitor all of it .

3. We already have to think about the economy in a way, since we are planing
to use the L2Arena class balance for the final server later on.
We need to consider:
- Augments
- Enchants
- Clan Skills
- Skill Enchants
- Raid Jewelery

anything else???


EDIT: L2Arena gives us also a platform to test our features and show it to some L2off players / Devs.
They can just log in and enjoy the full custom balance without any farming,
where actually 34 out of 34 classes are making serious impact in PvP.
Most L2off guys never tried out L2j coz they heard bad things about it.
So it's up to a good team (us) to prove them wrong and show them that java is much more powerfull nowadays.

1) well i would start saying that this " arena " should stay up max 3-4 hours per day, but you gotta consider that not everyone has the same " delay time " so you should run it 4 hours in the " Europe Evening " and other 4 for " Americans Evening ", thats should be a good thing for the time

2) about the place i would think about some Closed Big Space, were ppl can see eachother and pvp whoever they want, tho he can't be so small, so watch out..

3) you surely need to add a teleporter with just 2 options : 1 - teleporting to 1 town that is selling consumables, dyes, buffs ect.. 2 - teleporting back to this arena

4) that closed arena should be devided in 2 parts, 1 when ppl are perma flagged, and the other one where you can decide if flag or not..

well i ll keep postin, those are the first ideas i had for now..

teleport back anytime. This peace place also has a teleporter with like ~ 5

thought about underground coliseum or pagan chapelle (where SiegeKing used to spawn)
but maybe there are better locations. Let's discuss about this issue later on.

I was thinking about baium/antharas/valakas areas!Those are wide open and in the baium loc u can see almost all of the chars around.

Abandoned camp, hugh area with lots of Geodata .
on relapse it was maybe the best place where most of the mass pvp took place

You can split it on two rounds. I mean first round
- Augments - none
- Enchants - +6 for Armor(Jewels) / +10 for Weapon
- Clan Skills - standart for clan lvl 8
- Skill Enchants - none
- Raid Jewelery - none

Second round:
- Augments - none
- Enchants - +6 for Armor(Jewels) / +10 for Weapon
- Clan Skills - standart for clan lvl 8
- Skill Enchants - between 6-10 but same number for everyone and every skill
- Raid Jewelery - Baium+AQ for fighter classes / Baium+Valakas/Frintezza for mage and healer classes

Both rounds must be at least 1-2 weeks long to see the differences. About augments they are shitty part of the whole plan especially chances, thats why I put them none.
This is just my opinion. Dicuss pls!

@Umagy: Good idea. On Relapse we forgot to consider the skill enchant
so at the end a +15 skill had 40% better success rate than a +0 skill.
I guess this balance issue is kinda hard to handle ..

Armors are equal, Dyes don't influence the balance thaaaat much,
coz almost everybody is using the same setups like str+ for archers etc.

@Avanti such buffs are ment to unbalance the game for a specific period of time.
This unbalance is making the buffer class usefull and that's why it is giving some balance back on the other hand.
I know sounds strange lol

i understand that dont worry.
but on some servers those buffs, especially from Judicator are too overpowerd and made the pvp end in no time criting for more then just 7k
so all in all i just want to remind you that those "special" buffs should not be too overpowerd , neither too underpowered

the l2 Arena Server is only the pre project just to pvp in order to have the perfect balance when the real server start?


Anyway if its like i get it i have some suggestions for the main Server:

Only open lets say 9 Areas:
from 1-10 for example Ti
from 10-20 Abondon camp
...
then 3 lvl areas where is mass pvp for lvl 80+

in all areas ppl should can farm a bit for gear (ofc not overpowered gear but gear that make ppl farm a bit)---cause it will make ppl stay a bit longer on Server

in all this 3 areas should be Raid Bosses
this RB should be drop Items to get Nobless/subclass other special things
(it raise the clan pvp)


If you like the idea and i didnt take it wrong i would tell it more extended what i want to say

No L2 stopped being attractive since 1-2 years but there are still people playing it, so yea.

MMORPG games had their peak period in like 2 years ago, now they still attract but not as much players and especially quality ones they did in the past
